Overview
Situated in
the southernmost of China, Hainan Island is a famous beauty spot
noted for its golden beach, blue sea and tropical climate. The
province is administratively divided into the Hainan, Nansha,
Xisha, Zhongsha islands etc. Haikou is the capital city and the
second-biggest city is Sanya, with its tropical attractions earning
it the reputation as "Hawaii of China". Hainan Island
had been a poor little fishing village until 1988 when the government
designated it as the Hainan Special Economic Zone. Tourism now
accounts for 80% of the island's revenue.>
