Overview
>By the banks
of the Li River in southern China, Guilin, which is also named
Forest of Sweet Osmanthus, is justifiably considered to be one
of the most beautiful places in China.
Limestone
peaks rise magically from the mist shrouded rice fields as the
lazy rivers wind through the idyllic countryside of terraced rice
paddies and bamboo groves
Guilin was
founded in 214 BC. Today it is the top destination in China for
the foreign tourists. Guilin is famous for it opal, crystal, and
landscape paintings. The best season to visit is autumn.
The town itself is not developed, but it's modern, clean and organized,
and a good place to spend a day exploring several smaller hills
within its boundaries. A boat trip on the peaceful Li River is
the absolute high point of any visit to Guilin.
