Overview
Guangzhou
(Canton), the capital of Guangdong province, is located on the
Pearl River delta near the South China Sea.
As a trade
port for centuries, Guangzhou is known for its mixture of culture.
It is called Yangcheng (Goat City) or Huacheng (Flower City) by
Chinese, while for decades after the Opium War (1839-1842) it
was known to foreigners as Canton.
